Supporting Sexual and Gender Minority Students in Schools
Developed by the Government of Alberta in Canada, the Guidelines for Best Practices: Creating Learning Environments that Respect Diverse Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities and Gender Expressions provides an overview of how teachers can ensure the well-being of gender and sexual minority students. This report provides information on legislation and policies supporting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students in Canada, information on specific struggles LGBTQ students face in the educational context, and how educators can create supportive environments for LGBTQ students. The resource includes topics such as reducing homophobic and transphobic bullying and respecting gender and sexual diversity. Further, each section includes information on what best practice implementation looks like across grade levels and school environments.
