Suicide Prevention Lessons and Video Resources for Grades 7-12
Kathleen Gasparini, a secondary health educator with over 20 years of experience, developed this lesson plan on suicide prevention for teens based on the documentary “In the Mix: Depression on the Edge”. Students are presented with information about suicide, and apply this information to analyze stories of teens who may be at risk for suicide. Objectives of the lesson include: learning key concepts of suicide prevention, understanding risks and warning signs, and acquiring and practicing skills to support another teen who may be at risk for suicide. This lesson includes links to reproducible materials, including myths/facts about suicide and teen case studies, as well as links to additional online resources for educators about suicide prevention and mental health promotion.
