A Film About Using Technology to Promote Positive Mental Health
Code Therapy is a free documentary short about using digital technologies to support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. The film is narrated by Carl O’Reilly, a London-based architect, mental health advocate and author, and describes his own mental health journey and struggles accessing effective mental health treatments while in university. The premise of the film is that behavioral intervention technologies, such as online programs and apps that teach evidence-based therapy skills, have the potential to improve access to mental health supports. Featuring interviews with leading experts in mental health technology, this film could be incorporated into mental health lessons, or used to integrate discussions about mental health into the computer sciences curricula.
Filmed in the US and UK in 2016, Code Therapy has been screened at festivals in England, Ireland, India and the United States and won Best Documentary at the 2016 Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival.
