Understanding the Status of LGBTQ Students in Schools: A Teacher’s Perspective
The Every Teacher Project, developed by Catherine Taylor and colleagues from the University of Winnipeg, is a knowledge mobilization project on educator’s experiences and perceptions of the school climate for gender and sexual minority students. Through online surveys, educators within all Canadian provinces reported on their opinions and experiences with LGBTQ inclusive education, their perceptions of safety for LGBTQ students and school personnel, on the support received from schools and school communities to engage in LGBTQ inclusive education, and on the amount harassment and school bullying that LGBTQ students experience. The Every Teacher Project report also discusses future directions and recommendations to help schools become more accepting and safe environments for all students.
