Implementing and assessing SEL in preschool and elementary school
This 2011 brief, prepared for the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention in the United States, offers a summary of information and approaches for implementing and assessing SEL in schools and districts. The brief has four primary goals: to outline and describe SEL learning standards, to present a collection of universal teacher-rated assessment tools for evaluating SEL in preschool and elementary classrooms, to offer guidance on implementing and assessing SEL in classroom settings, and to explain how SEL assessment tools can be used effectively in monitoring student progress in reaching social and emotional development goals. Resources for guidance on SEL and links to exemplars of SEL standards are provided.
