The Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP), co-founded by Morningside Center and the New York City Department of Education in 1985, is a school-based SEL program that focuses on the creation of caring, peaceful school learning communities through fostering skills for peaceful and effective conflict resolution.

Teachers receive training and coaching in the instruction of RCCP’s K-12 curricula, with lessons that help students develop skills in conflict resolution, focusing on communication skills, emotion management, mediation, cooperation, and intercultural understanding. Another goal of the RCCP is to reduce racial/ethnic/gender biases in the schools by addressing stereotyping, and fostering empathy.

Research shows that students who had received RCCP instruction performed better on standardized tests in reading and math, reported a less hostile view of the world, and saw violence as unacceptable. RCCP is also recognized by CASEL as a “SELect” program.
